As a startup, you need to put in place policies that guide the actions of your employees and even you as the founder. Nothing signals a bad company faster than the policies that they have in place.

Every employee deserves to work in a safe and productive environment. This cannot happen when there are harassment and bullying taking place amongst your workforce. As such, you need to have an anti-harassment policy that outlines the specific behaviours that won’t be tolerated and what victims can do to report them. This policy should also have a clearly defined list of consequences for negative behaviour. To further improve your employee’s teamwork, have team building exercises and even company retreats. You need your employees to work together to succeed.

Reward Policies

Having reward policies allows your employees to know from the get-go what they need to do to succeed. This means having milestones and rewards set in place so that not only do your employees know they have a future with you but that their hard work will pay off. These rewards can range from promotions, to pay increases, to simply an extra day off work. When you reward good behaviour, instead of setting your employees against each other in a competition, you encourage everyone to strive to be better.

Documentation Policies

Every single company needs to have documentation policies. This means that when an employee or new bit of data comes in it can be properly stored. A documentation policy means having a set of rules concerning metadata. Everyone needs to use the same system for your records to be complete.
